ANESTHESIA-FREE (STANDING) DENTAL SERVICES at Harbor Vet:
Before standing dental.
2 weeks after standing dental with regular brushing.
Periodontal disease is the most common problem seen in otherwise healthy
dogs. Signs of disease are smelly breath, bleeding gums, and oral
discomfort. This can lead to abscess, bone loss and in extreme cases,
systemic poisoning. Stinky
dog breath should not be normalized!
Unnecessary routine anesthesia dental cleanings are avoidable. This can easily
be accomplished by the responsible pet owner through home care, training, and
with periodic check-ups by our canine dental
hygienist.
The benefits are obvious: your dog has improved health and you strengthen your
bond with your dog, all at considerable financial savings.

NAIL GROOMING WITH A GRINDER:

Overgrown nails forcing the dog to rock back
on his rear foot and carry his rear leg much farther
forward than normal.
Very few dogs actually keep their nails short enough to clear the ground when
standing, no matter how much they run on concrete. Do you hear your dog's
nails tapping on uncarpeted floors? Overgrown nails cause a dog's toes
to splay, adversely affecting their gait, and can contribute to leg breaks
in fragile-boned breeds. Irregular attention to nails can lead to permanent
conformation problems, early arthritis and in some cases, serious crippling.
Trimming nails with clippers tends to remove too much nail (causing pain
and bleeding) or not enough nail. Sharp nail edges can scratch your skin
and snag
your clothing.
With an electric grinder, nails are quickly filed down as short as possible
without causing discomfort. Even nails with overgrown veins can
be be made to recede to an acceptable length with more frequent grinding. We
can help you train your dog to accept this procedure in a calm and submissive
manner.

Vaccination Policy
Recently the American Veterinary Medical Association endorsed
a change of vaccination protocols from one to every three years.
These include FVRCP,
FELV, DHPP and Rabies.
Current studies indicate at least 9 years’ duration for
these vaccines but at present the rabies vaccine is still required
by law every 3 years
in the state of California. All other vaccines are discretionary.
